Martin has been a bass player at heart ever since his brother gave him his first bass in grade school, noticing he was picking out bass parts on all of the Beatles albums in the house. After learning the Beatles, Dave Clarke 5, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Martin progressed into the Jazz bands in High School and College, still playing Top-40 Rock and Roll with albums in the comfort of home and then in bands during his college years.

Moving to the  Seattle area in 1985 introduced him to some great musicians and the network spiderwebbed outwards to include not only Rock, but Jazz, Blues, and Theatre until he eventually met Brad Stoll, drummer extraordinaire. With Brad's help, he joined the project which was to become "The Black Velvet Band"

He is still playing Jazz in Seattle, along with some occasional blues and studio work, but it's the Rock and Roll that will always be in his soul.
